How this paycheck calculator estimates your take-home pay
This free paycheck calculator turns your gross salary into an estimate of your real take-home pay for 2026. It subtracts pre-tax deductions, then federal income tax (using 2026 brackets and the standard deduction), Social Security, Medicare and a flat state tax to show your net pay per paycheck and per year.
What’s taken out of a paycheck?
Three big buckets: federal income tax (based on your bracket after the standard deduction), FICA (6.2% Social Security up to the wage base plus 1.45% Medicare), and state income tax (varies — some states have none). Pre-tax 401(k) or health contributions lower your taxable income.
Why is my take-home lower than I expected?
Most people forget FICA (7.65%) stacks on top of income tax, so a “22% bracket” salary can lose closer to 30% once everything is counted. This calculator shows your effective rate — the real percentage you actually pay.
